2023 Karma GX-1 Electric SUV – The GX-1 is the first SUV manufactured by Karma which is the manufacturer behind the Revero and the upcoming GS-6 plug-in hybrid sedans along with the GSe-6 electric car. The GX-1 will debut as a vehicle powered by batteries, equipped with a range-extended hybrid (PHEV) powertrain set to be followed, and perhaps a hydrogen fuel cell-powered version.

While electric cars were traditionally vehicles, automakers are all aware that SUVs are the segment that is growing the fastest. Karma is a brand that grew from the ashes of Fisker’s bankruptcy and has already launched an assortment of gorgeous top-of-the-line plug-in hybrids built upon Fisker Karma. Based on its patents it appears that the GX-1 electric SUV may be Fisker’s biggest seller.
Powertrain
Contemporary car design is moving towards power-driven platforms which can then be outfitted with various “hats,” so we believe that the GX-1 will have a strong resemblance to the same machinery that powers models like the GS-6 as well as the GSe-6. Karma has plans for both electric and PHEV variants of the GX-1 and we’re expecting batteries and powertrains to be similar to those found in these GS cars, with the 85-kWh battery which provides approximately 230 miles of range and a 105-kWh unit that can provide 300 miles or more. (Those ranges may be less for the GX-1 due to its bigger weight.) The GS-6 HPEV comes with a dual-motor drive with 536 horsepower and 500 lb-ft torque offering 54 to 61 miles of range rated by the EPA and the three-cylinder BMW engine to act as an extender. We’re hoping to see this powertrain or a similar one on GX-1’s plug-in version. GX-1. Karma is also planning to showcase hydrogen versions of the GX-1 but we’re not certain if this is scheduled for production.

Estimated price when it first launched with the GS-6 as well as the GSe-6, Karma told us that there was a shortage of space in the segment of six figures in which the Revero performs, so the GS cars are scheduled to go on sale at prices of around $80,000. We’re expecting the GX-1 to be sold for an equivalent amount. However, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see a pricey six-figure high-performance version. Karma claims it will introduce a two-row battery-powered model of the GX-1 in the latter half of 2022 to be followed by an all-three-row model and a hybrid that plugs in.
